Eight Nigerian Soldiers Killed by IED in Borno Attack

On Thursday, a military convoy of the Nigerian Army, specifically troops attached to the 24 Task Force Brigade, was involved in a tragic incident in Borno State, resulting in the deaths of at least eight soldiers. The convoy was returning to Dikwa from Maiduguri after escorting food supplies and essential logistics when the leading vehicle, a gun truck, struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) allegedly planted by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The explosion destroyed the vehicle, leaving no chance of survival for the occupants. The identities and ranks of the deceased personnel were not confirmed at the time of reporting.

The use of IEDs has become a common tactic among insurgents in the region, with several similar incidents reported over the past year. Despite ongoing military operations under Operation Hadin Kai, attacks continue in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states, posing significant challenges to security forces.
