Soldiers Rescue 53 Hostages in Borno State Operation

On June 24, 2023, troops from the Nigerian Army, under the Joint Task Force North East, conducted an operation in Borno State, specifically in the Biu Local Government Area. The operation, named "Had in Kai," resulted in the successful rescue of 53 civilians who were held hostage by suspected ISWAP terrorists.

The troops encountered a terrorist roadblock along the Buratai-Kamuya road and, upon detecting the threat through surveillance, deployed a Quick Reaction Force (QRF) to the scene. During the engagement, the troops faced a firefight but managed to withdraw safely while ensuring the safety of the hostages.

They also recovered eight vehicles seized by the terrorists. Following the operation, the military commended the troops for their professional and swift response and urged residents in the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

Borno State has been a focal point of insecurity in Nigeria since the onset of the Boko Haram insurgency in 2009.
