Five ISWAP Bomb Experts Killed in Borno Explosion

Five suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), including four alleged improvised explosive device (IED) specialists and a medical officer named Usman Dan Fulani, were killed in an explosion while assembling an explosive device in Maina Daya Village, Marte Local Government Area, Borno State. The incident occurred as the group was preparing explosives intended for attacks on military supply routes within Sector 1 of Operation HADIN KAI, the military's counter-insurgency campaign in the North-East.

The explosion took place in a remote area approximately 29 kilometers east of Monguno, which has experienced frequent insurgent activities. The deaths of these bomb experts are expected to disrupt ISWAP's explosives production capabilities and reduce their capacity for roadside IED attacks.

In response, military authorities have ordered troops to increase patrols and conduct cordon-and-search operations in the Monguno, Marte, and Gamboru Ngala areas to prevent the regrouping of surviving insurgents. Security operations remain active as authorities verify details of the incident and assess its impact on ISWAP's activities.
