Court Acquits Suspended DCP Abba Kyari of All Charges

On October 20, 2023, Justice Jame Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja discharged and acquitted suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari of 23 counts of charges filed against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The charges included allegations of non-declaration of assets and conspiracy.

The court ruled that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to establish the allegations against Kyari. Justice Omotosho noted that the NDLEA did not present credible evidence to prove that properties linked to Kyari were indeed owned by him.

The court specifically mentioned that the prosecution could not disprove Kyari's claim that a property in Maiduguri belonged to his father and was inherited by his siblings. Furthermore, the court found that the NDLEA did not establish any conspiracy involving Kyari and his brothers.

The judgment emphasized the weakness of the prosecution's case, leading to the final decision to discharge and acquit Kyari and his brothers.
