Court Acquits Abba Kyari and Brothers of Asset Charges

On Thursday, the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the case against suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari and his brothers, Moham Kyari and Ali Kyari, regarding allegations of non-declaration of assets. Justice James Omotosho ruled that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The NDLEA had filed a 23-count charge against the trio, accusing them of not fully disclosing their assets, which included 14 properties allegedly linked to Kyari, such as a shop, mall, residential estate, polo playground, and farmland located in Abuja and Maiduguri, Borno State. The agency also alleged that N207 million and $17,598 were found in Kyari's accounts at Guaranty Trust Bank, United Bank for Africa, and Sterling Bank.

However, the Kyari brothers pleaded not guilty to the charges, and Justice Omotosho characterized the case against them as persecution, leading to their discharge and acquittal.
