Court Acquits Abba Kyari of Non-Asset Declaration Charges

On Thursday, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja discharged and acquitted suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari from charges of non-declaration of assets. The charges were filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) against Kyari and his brothers, Moham and Ali Kyari, alleging failure to disclose properties linked to Abba Kyari, including various assets in Abuja and Maiduguri, Borno State.

The court noted that the prosecution's evidence was not strong enough to establish a prima facie case. The NDLEA, however, reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing separate drug trafficking charges against Abba Kyari, with the next court date scheduled for March 16, 2026.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, clarified that the recent court decision does not affect the ongoing drug case against Kyari, emphasizing the distinction between the two legal matters.
