Court Acquits Abba Kyari, Criticizes NDLEA's Prosecution

On Wednesday, a Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice James Omotosho, ruled in favor of suspended police officer Abba Kyari, dismissing a case brought against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The NDLEA had accused Kyari of failing to properly declare certain properties linked to family members.

The case, filed in 2022, contained 23 counts against Kyari and his brothers, Moham Kyari and Ali Kyari. The prosecution argued that three houses located in Efab Metropolitan Estate, Abuja, belonged to Kyari and were not properly declared.

However, the court found that the NDLEA failed to establish that the properties actually belonged to Kyari and noted that he had listed assets indicating they belonged to his wife. Justice Omotosho criticized the NDLEA for its handling of the case, describing their actions as hasty and lacking sufficient evidence to support the charges.
