NDLEA Confirms Ongoing Drug Trial for Abba Kyari

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has provided an update regarding the ongoing drug trial of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari. The trial is set to continue before Justice Emeka Nwite at the Federal High Court in Abuja on March 16, 2026.

This announcement follows a recent ruling by Justice James Omotosho, who discharged Kyari from 23 counts related to alleged non-declaration of assets. Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, clarified that the ruling by Justice Omotosho pertains to a separate case involving money laundering and asset declaration, which is distinct from the main drug prosecution.

The prosecution team will first obtain a certified true copy of the judgment to review its details and decide on the next steps, including the possibility of an appeal. Babafemi emphasized that the main substantive drug case against Kyari remains ongoing.
