Kwara Monarch Oba Iwedunmoye I Dies After Kidnapping

Oba Moses Oyinloye Iwedunmoye I, the Onigbesi of Igbesi Land in Isin Local Government Area, passed away in the hospital after his health deteriorated following his rescue from kidnappers last month. He was abducted on August 22 when gunmen invaded the Igbesi community and was freed five days later during a joint security operation involving the Kwara State Police Command, soldiers, and vigilantes.

The operation was initiated after a distress report was received regarding a shooting incident near Elerin/Ijomu-Oro. Although he received medical care post-rescue, Oba Iwedunmoye never fully recovered.

His son, Prince Olasunkanmi, confirmed the monarch's death early Saturday morning. Additionally, Oba AbdulRahman Fabiyi expressed condolences and urged the government to enhance security logistics, emphasizing the need for displaced residents to feel safe returning to their communities.

The death of the monarch highlights the persistent insecurity and kidnapping issues affecting parts of Kwara State.
