PDP Factional Chairman Goronyo Resigns Amid Crisis

Alhaji Muhammad Bello Aliyu Goronyo, who served as the factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Tanimu Turaki-led camp, formally resigned from the party on August 30, 2026. In his resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Goronyo Ward in Goronyo Local Government Area, Goronyo cited personal reasons for his departure but did not provide further details.

His resignation is effective from August 31, 2026. Despite the circumstances surrounding his exit, Goronyo expressed gratitude for his time within the party's structures and requested that the party accept his letter as sufficient notice of resignation and remove his name from its membership register.

This resignation occurs during a turbulent period for the PDP in Sokoto State, which is experiencing an internal leadership crisis that has divided members into rival factions, adding pressure on the party as it prepares for the 2027 general election cycle.
