Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan Loses Husband

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan is in mourning following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, who died on Monday morning, September 7, 2026. Hafidh passed away at approximately 8:00 am while undergoing treatment for a heart condition at Mlimani Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar.

The announcement was made publicly by Vice President of Tanzania, Deogratius Ndejembi, who extended his sympathies to President Hassan and her family during this difficult time. Ndejembi also stated that preparations for Hafidh's burial are underway, with plans for him to be laid to rest in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar.
