Bandit Attack in Kebbe Local Government Area Kills Five

On Thursday, July 24, a bandit attack in Girkau community, Kebbe Local Government Area, resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals and injuries to three others. The assault occurred around 2:15 PM when a large group of armed men on motorcycles opened fire indiscriminately as residents were preparing for the Zuhr prayer.

Usman Girkau, a community resident, reported that the violence affected Girkau, Jibga, and Dukura communities, with one individual drowning while attempting to escape. A security operative, who spoke anonymously, identified four of the deceased: Dogo Dan Barkeji (50), Baban Gida Abdullahi (28), Abubakar Dan Yaki (50), and Abubakar Aliyu (35).

The fifth victim was an unidentified man from Dukura. The injured individuals, Jamilu Abubakar, Dahiru Yahaya, and Adamu Mohammed, were taken to the General Hospital for treatment.

DSP Ahmad Rufa'i, spokesman for the Sokoto State Police Command, had not received a briefing on the incident at the time of contact. Usman Girkau noted that this attack was not an isolated incident, recalling a similar attack on the community about a month prior.
