Burkina Faso Appoints Amir Abdou as New Coach

The Burkina Faso Football Federation has appointed Amir Abdou as the new head coach after the national team's early exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Abdou, a 53-year-old Franco-Comorian, replaces Brama Traor, whose tenure ended following the disappointing performance.

The federation emphasized a rigorous selection process to identify a capable candidate to restore stability and consistency to the national team. Abdou's first major task will be to stabilize performance ahead of the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign and the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, with the first match scheduled for March 2026.

Abdou gained recognition for guiding the Comoros national team to the knockout stage of the 2021 AFCON and has also managed Mauritania, achieving historic victories. His coaching style is characterized by tactical discipline and organization, and he is expected to instill clarity and unity within the Burkina Faso squad, which has a rich continental pedigree, having reached the AFCON final in 2013 and the semi-finals in 2017 and 2021.
