FCTA Enforces Ban on Illegal Transport Operations in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced enforcement actions against illegal public transport operations in Abuja, particularly focusing on the unauthorized motor park known as Jabi. The enforcement, led by the FCTA Transport Secretariat under the direction of Mr.

Chinedum Elechi, began on July 1. The initiative aims to combat criminal activities associated with illegal transport operations and ensure that commercial vehicles operate from designated locations such as the Mabushi bus taxi terminal.

During the first day of enforcement, vehicles were impounded, and owners were required to present necessary documentation to reclaim their vehicles. Mr.

Elechi emphasized that vehicles would only be released if owners assured they would not return to illegal loading points. Dr.

Peter Olumuji from the FCTA Command Control Centre noted that allowing illegal motor parks to flourish undermines law and order in Abuja. The enforcement is part of a broader plan to organize public transport and enhance passenger safety.
