Canadians Favor Overseas Travel in 2025, Reports Statistics Canada

Statistics Canada released its Tourism Activity 2025 report, indicating that Canadians made 14.3 million overseas visits in 2025. The top five overseas destinations for Canadian travelers were Mexico (2,662,000 visitors), the Dominican Republic (984,000), France (977,000), the United Kingdom (878,000), and Italy (805,000).

The report highlighted a notable decline in travel to the United States, with visits dropping from 31,506,000 in earlier years to 23,096,000 in 2025. In contrast, domestic travel within Canada rose from 333,601,000 to 342,040,000, while overseas visits increased from 12,269,000 to 14,270,000 during the same period.

This data suggests a shift in Canadian travel preferences, with a growing interest in destinations further from home and a reduced share of travel to the United States.
