Ghana Coach Carlos Queiroz Stays Amid Resignation Calls

Carlos Queiroz, the head coach of the Ghana national football team, faced calls for his resignation after the Black Stars lost 4-2 to The Gambia in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier. Ghana initially led the match 2-0, with goals from Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan, but The Gambia mounted a comeback, marking Ghana's second consecutive defeat in the qualifying campaign.

In a post-match press conference, Queiroz apologized to supporters for the team's performance but argued that resigning would not address the broader issues within Ghanaian football. He stated, “If you believe that with the coach resigning you can change the situation of football in Ghana, I’ll be the first one to resign,” indicating his belief in his capability to lead the team.

Queiroz also mentioned the need for the Ghana Football Association to evaluate the conditions for his continuation as coach. He expressed a desire for the team to regroup for their upcoming matches against Somalia.
