NAF Enhances Safety Management for Air Operations

Air Marshal Kelvin Anek, the Chief of Air Staff, has directed the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to enhance safety management practices during the planning and execution of air operations. This directive aims to prevent unintended casualties and comes in response to concerns raised by recent safety hazard reports.

Anek emphasized the necessity of strengthening risk assessment procedures, compliance, supervision, and the management of human factors. He made these statements during the first meeting of the NAF Safety Review Board (SRB) in December 2025.

Anek stressed the importance of proactive safety management rather than reactive responses to incidents. The SRB's purpose extends beyond merely reviewing statistical reports; it aims to critically analyze underlying trends, identify systemic deficiencies, and develop practical solutions to prevent future mishaps.

Anek commended the efforts of various branches within the NAF to promote safety awareness and implement preventive measures throughout the service.
