NiMet Transformation: New Salary Structure Approved

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has been commended for its transformation and commitment to climate science, particularly during a press conference in Abuja. Professor Charles Anosike, the current Director-General and CEO of NiMet, highlighted the agency's achievements over the past two years, including the installation of modern machinery and digitalization of operations.

A new salary structure for NiMet workers has been approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria, set to take effect on June 1, 2026, marking the first review in 28 years. This initiative aims to enhance worker welfare and skill acquisition.

NiMet has also become a preferred destination for young professionals in meteorology across West Africa, with training programs accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The agency's efforts have been recognized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and Professor Anosike was honored with the 2026 Education Excellence Award for his leadership in advancing meteorological education in Nigeria.
