China Advocates Global Governance Reform for Developing Nations

On Wednesday, the State Council of China released a white paper titled "Just Equit Global Govern," advocating for a fundamental overhaul of global governance structures to provide developing countries, particularly in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, with a greater role in international decision-making. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that the world is undergoing profound transformations and that the current global governance system must evolve to address emerging realities.

The document emphasizes that developing nations are underrepresented in major international decision-making bodies, despite accounting for a significant share of the world's population and economic growth. It calls for reforms in international institutions to ensure equitable participation of countries regardless of their economic strength or political influence.

The white paper also stresses the need for enhanced international cooperation to tackle common challenges such as climate change, poverty, food insecurity, and public health. This initiative reflects China's growing efforts to position itself as a leading voice for the global south.
