China and Nigeria Celebrate Women's Empowerment Together

On Tuesday, during the Lantern Festival in Abuja, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yang Jianx, highlighted the significance of the event in celebrating women's roles in social development. This celebration coincided with preparations for International Women's Day, emphasizing the vital contributions of women to societal progress.

Yang noted that the Lantern Festival, inscribed on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage, serves as a platform to share cultural values globally. He remarked on the achievements of women in China, where 690 million women have contributed to societal development, with significant reductions in maternal mortality rates and a substantial presence in the workforce.

Dr. Mukhtar Muhammad, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Tourism, described the event as a fusion of cultures, symbolizing women's empowerment.

Jean Paul Abiaga from UNESCO emphasized the role of culture and education in advancing gender equality, asserting that societal progress is linked to the empowerment of women and girls.
