Chukwuma Triumphs in Louisiana Women's 100m Race

Rosemari Chukwuma emerged victorious in the women's 100m at the Battle Bayou in Louisiana, clocking a time of 10.81 seconds. This performance marked the beginning of her outdoor season, where she successfully held off a late challenge from Favour Ofili, who, along with Canada's Audrei Leduc, finished joint second with a time of 10.93 seconds.

Although Chukwuma's time was the fastest of her career, it will not count as a legal personal best due to tailwind conditions. Her previous best remains 10.88 seconds, set at the John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, USA, in May 2024.

This victory marks the second time this season that Chukwuma has defeated Ofili, who had previously lost to her in the women's 60m event on February 24, where Chukwuma clocked 7.17 seconds, narrowly defeating American sprinter Alia Armstrong. Chukwuma is Nigeria's sole representative in the women's 100m for the upcoming 2025 World Championship in Tokyo.
