Ogun Civil Society Group Demands Local Government Reform

The Lygel Youth Leadership Initiative, represented by Executive Director Lekan Oladapo, has called for increased transparency and reform in local government administration in Ogun State. During a press briefing in Abeokuta, the group urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to address governance deficits before the end of his current term.

They highlighted issues such as the alleged withholding of ecological funds meant for local governments, which has hindered routine functions like road grading and healthcare maintenance. The group referenced a 2023 petition by Ijebu East Local Government Chairman Wale Adedayo regarding these financial allocations.

They also criticized the lack of public access to procurement information, specifically questioning the transparency of the 1.39 billion naira Ogun State House Assembly complex project. Furthermore, they pointed out the inadequacies in healthcare infrastructure, noting that less than 10% of primary healthcare centers have been renovated under the current administration.

The group concluded by emphasizing the need for a coherent development strategy for Ogun State's border towns.
