COAS Appoints GOCs for New Nigerian Army Divisions

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has appointed General Officers Commanding (GOCs) for newly established divisions within the Nigerian Army, following the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Army's force structure and enhance its operational capabilities to address Nigeria's evolving security challenges. According to a statement from Army spokesperson Colonel Appolonia Anele, the new divisions will commence operations upon achieving Initial Operational Capability (IOC), with plans to progressively attain Full Operational Capability (FOC).

The COAS has appointed seasoned officers to lead these divisions: Major General Yakubu Yahaya will command the 9 Division in Ilorin, Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife will lead the 10 Division in Jalingo, and Major General Moses Gara will head the 5 Division in Makurdi. The COAS has tasked these officers with providing leadership, sustaining operational momentum, and maintaining high standards of professionalism and effectiveness.
