COAS Advocates for Enhanced Veterans' Welfare Policies

During a meeting at the Army Headquarters in Abuja, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu highlighted the importance of strategic policy support for sustainable veterans' welfare. He noted that a comprehensive framework is necessary to ensure long-term impacts on veterans' lives.

Colonel Appolonia Anel, Director of Army Public Relations, reported that Shaibu emphasized the sacrifices made by military personnel and the need for a robust support system that reflects national gratitude. He urged the establishment of a fully funded ministry dedicated exclusively to veterans' affairs, advocating for legislative initiatives to strengthen veterans' welfare.

Ms. Grace Morenik Henri, Chairperson of the Nigerian Legion, pointed out the challenges faced by retired personnel, including low public awareness and the absence of a dedicated budget line for veterans' affairs.

She stressed the need for consistent funding and a coherent policy framework to support veterans throughout the fiscal cycle.
