Reps Call for Housing Estates for Military Veterans

On Thursday, the House of Representatives in Nigeria adopted a motion urging the federal government to establish housing estates across the country for retired military personnel and the widows of officers who died in active service. The motion, led by member Hussaini Jallo from Kaduna State, emphasized that many retired military personnel lack access to decent and affordable housing despite their years of dedicated service.

It also noted that widows of fallen officers often face inadequate housing support, worsening their social and economic vulnerability. The lawmakers pointed out that several military housing institutions already exist within the country, demonstrating the capacity to support housing initiatives.

They called for the Federal Housing Authority to coordinate a nationwide scheme to unify various housing initiatives and ensure the delivery of post-service housing. The resolution warned that the absence of a coordinated housing framework could undermine the morale and welfare of military personnel and their families.
