Yobe SEMA and UNDP Train Volunteer Security Personnel

The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other partners, initiated a three-day training workshop on community safety and security in Damaturu, Yobe State. The workshop, which commenced on Tuesday, targeted volunteer security outfits, community leaders, and various stakeholders, focusing on reconciliation, early warning systems, and mental health support.

Dr. Ibrahim Jalo Muhammad, Director of Search and Rescue Operations at SEMA, emphasized the workshop's goal to enhance policy dialogue and strengthen capacities in community-based peacebuilding. The involvement of Gen. Dr. Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd.) was noted in identifying volunteer security outfits.

Charles Mback, Head of Office at UNDP, highlighted the commitment of participants to community resilience and peacemaking across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states. The training is part of the RSF initiative, which has previously supported 300 volunteer security outfits in Yobe State, enhancing their roles in public safety and security.
