ISWAP Commander Killed by Own IED in Borno Chaos

On February 24, a senior commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), identified as Amir Musa, was reportedly killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) he had planted himself in Borno. This incident has led to confusion and heightened tensions within the ISWAP camp, as it is believed to have triggered internal discord among the insurgents.

Sources indicate that two members of the group, identified as unit intelligence members, sought clarification regarding Musa's death and the circumstances surrounding it. The incident also follows the earlier killing of another ISWAP member, Abu Kasim, which has further complicated relations within the group.

Reports suggest that the death of Abu Nazir may have been a result of friendly fire amid clashes with rival Boko Haram fighters, who are believed to have been responsible for the earlier killing of Abu Kasim. This ongoing internal rift is seen as a potential weakening of operational cohesion within ISWAP, especially as security forces continue to apply pressure on terrorist enclaves in the region.
