Confusion Over Succession Rites in Ipele, Ondo State

In Ipele, a town in Owo Local Government Area, Ondo State, confusion has erupted regarding the subversion of succession rites after allegations of sexual misconduct were made against the traditional ruler, Oba Samuel Oluwasola Daramola, by a 21-year-old woman named Simpli Grace. The allegations have led to death threats and sparked outrage within the community.

The situation has been exacerbated by a history of instability following the introduction of a rotational kingship system after reforms in 1998, which aimed to modernize the selection process for the monarch. Chief Adewunmi Abitoy, a prominent figure in the Ipel Development Association, noted that the traditional succession system had been altered, leading to current challenges.
