Ajah Chieftaincy Dispute: Forgery and Detention Allegations

The chieftaincy tussle in Ajah has intensified as the Olumegbon family has accused Oba Rilwan Akiolu of forgery and unlawful detention. Alhaji Machado Adesina, the family’s secretary, alleged that he was detained for 32 days at the FCID annex in Ikoyi on Akiolu's orders, following opposition to the selection of Alhaji Abdulateef Kolawol Lawal as the new monarch, contrary to the family's preferred candidate, Pastor Emmanuel Olusegun Olumegbon.

Adesina was later arraigned in the Lagos State High Court on charges of conspiracy and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, where he was granted bail. The family claims that Akiolu is attempting to influence the leadership process and has raised concerns over the alleged sale of ancestral land.

They are challenging the legitimacy of Lawal's installation, citing a long-standing ownership of the land backed by historical court judgments. Efforts to obtain a response from Oba Akiolu have been unsuccessful.
