Kano Court Acquits Tricycle Driver of Murder Charges

The Kano State court, presided over by Justice Adam Abdullahi, acquitted Mustapha, a tricycle driver, of murder charges under Section 221 of the Penal Code. The prosecution, represented by Barr.

Usman Abdullahi, alleged that Mustapha had hit Alhaji Muhammad Mustapha's vehicle at a filling station, leading to a confrontation where Mustapha allegedly struck the deceased with his vehicle again, resulting in his death. Mustapha pleaded not guilty to the charges.

During the trial, the prosecution called six witnesses, while the defense, led by Barrister Mubarak, allowed Mustapha to testify in his defense. After reviewing the evidence and arguments from both sides, the court determined that the prosecution did not establish the charge beyond the required standard, leading to Mustapha's acquittal.

Following the judgment, the Kano State Government expressed dissatisfaction and announced plans to appeal the decision.
