Abba Kyari Presents Evidence Against NDLEA in Court

Abba Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, presented video evidence in the Federal High Court in Abuja, alleging that operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) assist drug traffickers at airports. Kyari is on trial alongside several officers, including ACP Sundai Ubua, ASP Bawa Jame, Inspector Simon Agirigba, ASP John Nuhu, and ASP John Umoru, for drug-related offenses.

The case involves two convicted drug traffickers, Chibunna Patrick Umeib and Emeka Alphonsu Ezenwann, who were arraigned in 2022 and later sentenced after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges. During court proceedings, a police inspector, El John Nwoke, testified about the arrest of traffickers at Enugu Airport, where 21.55 kilograms of cocaine were seized.

The defense counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu, claimed that NDLEA officials often fail to conduct thorough searches at the airport. The case has been adjourned to May 20-21 for continued hearings.
