Abba Kyari's Drug Trial Continues Amid Acquittal

The trial of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari continues, as clarified by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Kyari was discharged and acquitted of 23 charges concerning the alleged non-declaration of assets by Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court in Abuja on March 16, 2026.

The court ruled that the NDLEA failed to provide sufficient evidence to establish the allegations against Kyari and his two brothers, who were also arraigned for allegedly swearing false affidavits to conceal the origins of certain properties. The prosecution was unable to present credible material linking Kyari to the properties in question, including those located in Fountain Estate and Linda Choko Road, Asokoro, Abuja.

The NDLEA's spokesman, Femi Babafemi, stated that the prosecution team needs to obtain a certified true copy of the judgment to determine their next course of action regarding the ongoing substantial drug case against Kyari.
