Court to Rule on Mohbad Death Investigation Suit

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Jame Omotosho, has set September 29, 2026, for judgment in a suit filed by the Break the Silence Foundation. The suit seeks to compel the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to reopen the investigation into the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

During the proceedings, Chief Tund Falola, representing the foundation, urged the court to grant the relief sought. The court heard an application from Samson Obaboy, who sought to join the suit as an interested party, but Justice Omotosho dismissed this application, stating it failed to establish sufficient legal interest.

The foundation approached the court due to dissatisfaction with the earlier police investigation, citing critical aspects that were allegedly not adequately explored. Mohbad's death on September 12, 2023, has sparked widespread public outrage, leading to calls for accountability.

His body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
