Court to Rule on Mohbad Death Investigation Suit

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Jame Omotosho, has set a judgment date of September 29, 2026, for a suit aimed at compelling the Inspector General of Police to reopen the investigation into the death of popular Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad. The case, initiated by the Break the Silence Foundation, seeks a judicial review order mandamus to direct police authorities to conduct a fresh investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad's death.

During the proceedings, Chief Tund Falola, representing the foundation, argued for the relief sought, citing dissatisfaction with the outcome of the earlier police investigation. The court dismissed an application by Samson Obaboy to join the case, ruling that it failed to demonstrate sufficient legal interest.

Mohbad's death on September 12, 2023, has sparked public outrage and calls for accountability, with his father, Joseph Aloba, repeatedly seeking clarity on the events leading to his son's death.
