Ten Convicted for Naira Abuse in Delta and Edo States

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced the conviction of ten individuals for naira abuse in Delta and Edo states. The convictions were made by Justice F.
Olubanjo of the Federal High Court in Asaba, Delta State, and Justice Prof. C.
Obiozor of the Federal High Court in Benin City. The convicts, including Lucki Onoberhi, Happi Joseph, Isioma Fridai, Ehiedu Collin, Ndudi Albert Okori, Builder Ernest Achiem, Isich Desmond, Chijiok Nwosu, Davison Enadegh, and Agbonmwar Lucki Osaro, were found guilty of contravening Section 21 (3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act of 2007.
The charges stemmed from incidents where they were caught spraying naira notes during social events, specifically at a wedding ceremony, where they tampered with a sum of N50,000 in N200 denominations. Sentences ranged from six to twelve months in prison, with fines of N100,000 imposed on each convict.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to combating naira abuse and warned against the mishandling of the country's currency.
