Court Remands Seven Suspects in UniCal Lecturer Murder

On Wednesday, the Federal High Court in Calabar ordered the remand of seven suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Professor Ekanem Ephraim, a lecturer at the University of Calabar. The presiding judge, Justice Rosemari Dugbo Oshoghori, adjourned the case to April 21, 2026, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The suspects include Patrick Essien Etim, Anthony Essien Etim, Asuquo Isaac, Uwem Ekpeyong, Effiok Eyo, Yobo Imoh, and John Udofa. They were arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) between December 2025 and January 2026 during investigations into a series of kidnappings and criminal activities in Calabar and its surroundings.

The case number is FHC/CA/M10/26, with the state security service filing a motion ex parte to request the detention of the suspects.
