Tricyclists Remanded for Assaulting Lawyer and Wife

On Tuesday, a magistrate court in Ilorin, Kwara State, ordered the remand of two commercial tricyclists, Mohamud Saad and Sunday Emmanuel, for allegedly assaulting human rights lawyer Taofiq Olateju and his wife, Monsurat Olateju. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday along a busy route in Ilorin when the couple encountered a blockage caused by the tricyclists.

This led to a verbal exchange that escalated into violence. Taofiq Olateju confronted the tricyclists directly, which resulted in the assault on his wife, who sustained injuries to her right hand and required hospitalization.

The court proceedings revealed that the defendants allegedly acted in concert to commit the assault, which was classified under criminal conspiracy and assault causing hurt, contrary to sections 97, 267, and 244 of the Penal Code. The case has been adjourned until April 28, 2026, for further mention.
