Kwara State Reverses Tricycle Levy to ₦700 Amid Complaints

The Kwara State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has announced the reversal of the daily tricycle levy to ₦700. This decision was made after complaints arose regarding ticket collectors allegedly charging tricycle operators above the officially approved daily levy.

The statement, issued by Bakar Baliqe, the Assistant Press Secretary to the Ministry, emphasized the need for mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence within the transport sector. The commission condemned the alleged overcharging and reiterated that adherence to the agreed ticket terms is essential for maintaining harmony.

The total daily ticket levy collected by the union is ₦200, which is remitted to the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service. The government warned that any individual or group undermining this arrangement would face legal consequences.

Alhaji Salau Kabiru Abdullahi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, reaffirmed the administration's commitment to ensuring a fair operating environment for transport operators, highlighting their significant contribution to the state's economy and social cohesion.
