Ekiti APC Aspirant Olawumi Remanded in Prison Custody

Abimbola Olajumoke Olawumi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, has been remanded in prison custody for one month following a ruling by a Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti. This decision came after Olawumi failed to appear in court for a case involving allegations of defamation, cyberbullying, and kidnapping brought by Yemisi Joluwe, the Chief Executive Officer of YSJ Agro-Allied Limited.

The court revoked her earlier bail and ordered her to remain in custody pending further proceedings, which are scheduled for September 15, 2026. Joluwe accused Olawumi of making damaging statements about her and her agricultural company, asserting that the legal action aims to protect the company's reputation rather than suppress legitimate criticism.

Joluwe described the allegations as false and harmful to the confidence of stakeholders. The case has also attracted attention due to separate allegations of kidnapping and murder involving YSJ Agro-Allied Limited's staff, which are under investigation by security agencies.
