CPC Warns Against Sale of Repackaged Expired Products

Dr. Mrs. Obioma Okafor, the Director General of the Imo State Consumer Protection Council (CPC), issued a strong warning to traders and distributors against the repackaging of expired or deteriorated products for sale. She described this practice as deceptive, dangerous, and unacceptable, asserting that repackaging does not render expired products safe for consumption.

Dr. Okafor advised consumers to be cautious of attractive packaging and to check manufacturing and expiry dates, seals, labels, and batch numbers carefully. She highlighted the importance of buying from reputable dealers and keeping receipts.

The CPC will continue market surveillance to identify and remove unsafe products. Dr. Okafor encouraged consumers to report any suspicious products, stating that such reports could prevent harm to others.

The Council is committed to protecting consumers from counterfeit, expired, adulterated, and substandard products while promoting fairness and transparency in the marketplace.
