Allegations of Political Persecution in Nnaji's Arrest

Civil society organizations have accused the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) of politically motivated actions in the arrest of Uch Nnaji, the former Minister of Science and Technology. At a press conference in Abuja on Friday, convened by the president of a group, Kennedi Ijer, it was alleged that Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah is orchestrating a plot to undermine Nnaji's 2027 governorship aspirations.

Ijer described the arrest and continued detention of Nnaji as a political witch hunt rather than a genuine effort to combat corruption. He claimed that the ICPC's actions are intended to prevent Nnaji from meeting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline for submitting candidacy documents.

The group has threatened to take legal action against the ICPC for what they describe as an abuse of power.
