Tinubu, Ribadu Praised for Oyo Schoolchildren Rescue

The Citizens’ Safety & Security Network (CSSN) praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and Nigeria’s security agencies for successfully rescuing schoolchildren and teachers abducted from Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State. On 15 May 2026, gunmen attacked three schools in Yawota and Ahoro-Esiele, abducting numerous pupils, teachers, and a principal, resulting in one teacher's death during the assault and another dying in captivity.

The CSSN, through its Convener Arc. Timothy Danladi Usman, credited Ribadu for his decisive leadership and the effective coordination among security agencies.

The Federal Government charged three suspects—Abdulrazak Umar, Yunusa Musa, and Shamsu Adamu Sani—with involvement in the abduction, leading to their life imprisonment for concealing information about the crime's masterminds. CSSN emphasized the need for improved school security and operational readiness to prevent future tragedies.
