INEC Chairman Amupitan Addresses Election Integrity Concerns

Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), issued a bold statement addressing concerns over ballot box snatching and result manipulation in Nigeria. This declaration was made during a courtesy visit to Mallam Lanr Issa Onilu, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), at INEC headquarters in Abuja.

Dr. Augustu Maduka Obum, a spokesman for the Foundation for Credible Elections and Good Governance, praised Amupitan's commitment to ensuring credible elections in 2027.

He emphasized that the statement was not mere rhetoric but a clear signal that the era of electoral brigandage is behind Nigeria. The group urged opposition parties, civil society organizations, and media stakeholders to support INEC in its efforts to maintain electoral integrity, warning against actions that could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

Amupitan, a distinguished lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), is noted for his deep institutional knowledge and robust legal experience, which are seen as vital for the upcoming elections.
