Defence Minister Musa Takes Campaign Role Ahead of 2027 Elections

Nigeria's Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has accepted the position of Secretary I on the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, as approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The announcement was made on August 24 by Leah Katung-Babatunde, Special Adviser on Media to the Minister.

General Musa described the appointment as a call to higher service and pledged to approach the role with diligence, aiming to secure victory for the APC in the upcoming 2027 elections. He expressed confidence in the party's success and urged unity among members and supporters.

Despite his new campaign responsibilities, General Musa assured that his constitutional duties at the Ministry of Defence would remain a priority, emphasizing that ongoing military operations and strategic reforms would continue unabated. This dual role comes amid ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, including counterinsurgency operations in the northeast and banditry in the northwest, prompting Musa to address concerns about the potential politicization of the defence portfolio.
