Delta CP Orders Trial of Officers in Extortion Video

Delta State Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi has mandated the summary trial of two police officers, Inspector Augustin Jeremiah (AP No. 262712) and Corporal Miracl Ehirim (F No. 519970), following their involvement in a viral video that allegedly shows them extorting money from a member of the public inside the C Division Police Station in Asaba. The video, which runs for three minutes and 28 seconds, depicts a man in a white t-shirt transferring N51,500 to the officers via a Point of Sale terminal while they stand beside him.

The incident was disclosed by Delta State Police spokesperson Bright Edaf, who stated that the trial would conclude on Thursday, with the outcome to be made public. The video has drawn significant attention, prompting human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu to report the incident.

The Police Complaint Response Unit has confirmed the identification of the officers, and they have been arrested and detained as part of the investigation directed by the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu.
