Delta Police Launch Operation VELVET to Enhance Security

On Tuesday, the Delta State Police Command initiated Operation VELVET in response to directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu. This operation aims to enforce compliance with vehicle and traffic regulations, improve road safety, and enhance security throughout Delta State.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation specifically targets vehicles lacking valid documents, unregistered vehicles, and those with obscured or altered number plates. In the initial phase, 10 vehicles were flagged for traffic violations and subsequently impounded, with their cases now in the mobile court in Asaba undergoing judicial processes.
The Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, led the flag-off in Asaba, with the operation simultaneously commencing across all nine area commands and police divisions in the state. CP Erale urged vehicle owners to ensure proper documentation and display of approved number plates, while instructing officers to conduct the operation firmly and professionally, warning against any misconduct.
