Ogun Police Launch Operation VELVET to Enforce Traffic Laws

The Ogun State Police Command has reactivated Operation VELVET across the state's 20 Local Government Areas to enhance traffic regulation enforcement, improve road safety, and ensure smooth vehicular movement. Directed by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the operation focuses on violations such as one-way driving, reckless driving, unauthorized use of emergency sirens, and vehicles with altered registration plates.

Other targeted offenses include driving without a valid license, vehicular overloading, and obstructive parking. Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni instructed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to implement the operation effectively while ensuring officers respect citizens' rights.

Ojajuni warned against using the operation for misconduct, stating that any officer engaging in bribery or intimidation would face disciplinary action. The command urged motorists and transport workers to comply with traffic regulations and warned against offering bribes to evade penalties.

Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babasuyi reaffirmed the commitment to professional enforcement and cooperation from residents for safer roads.
