Denmark Clarifies Rules for Foreign Student Permits

The Danish government has provided clarification regarding the duration of stay for foreign students holding a study residence permit, as outlined by the Danish Immigration Service. International students are allowed to remain in Denmark for the standard duration of their educational program, provided they are actively engaged in their studies.

If a student fails to complete their program within the standard timeframe, they must apply for an extension of their residence permit. The maximum extension period is one year, with an additional year granted for delays caused by pregnancy or parental leave, allowing for a total maximum extension of two years.

Students must submit their extension request no later than the expiration date of their current permit and cannot apply more than four months in advance. Additionally, students who change their educational programs are required to apply for a new residence permit for their new course rather than extending the existing one, although they may begin attending the new program while awaiting a decision on their application.
