IGP Disu Holds Emergency Meeting on Police Accountability

On May 5, 2026, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu convened an emergency meeting with senior leadership of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja. The meeting aimed to address critical national security concerns and reinforce accountability within the force.

Disu emphasized the need for transparency, discipline, and responsible leadership at all command levels, noting the evolving security landscape that demands an intelligence-driven police approach. He directly addressed a recent incident in Delta State involving the extrajudicial killing of a suspect, describing it as unlawful and inconsistent with the values of the Nigeria Police Force.

Disu confirmed that the case would be forwarded for criminal prosecution, reiterating the force's zero-tolerance stance on misconduct. The meeting also reported operational outcomes from April 2026, including the arrest of 28 terrorist suspects, 51 murder suspects, and the rescue of 189 kidnap victims.

Additionally, Disu announced the establishment of a Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to enhance the force's response to serious violent crimes.
