Nigeria Hosts AU Military Staff Committee Induction

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in Abuja hosted an induction program for the African Union (AU) Military Staff Committee (MSC) on Monday, reaffirming Nigeria's commitment to promoting peace and security across Africa. The two-day capacity-building program aimed to enhance the effectiveness of the committee and strengthen military cooperation among member states.

Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, stated that the program reflects Nigeria's unwavering dedication to supporting continental peace initiatives. Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede emphasized the complex security challenges Africa faces, including terrorism, violent extremism, transnational organized crime, maritime insecurity, and cyber threats.

Ms. Neama Chusi, head of the Peace and Security Council Secretariat, described the MSC as a critical advisory body that provides military perspectives to complement diplomatic efforts in conflict prevention and management.

Brigadier General Abubakar Conteh highlighted the importance of the induction program in fostering cooperation and enhancing the committee's capacity to provide timely military advice.
